Sex Hormone Binding Globulin is a glycoprotein produced in the liver and binds to certain male and female sex hormones.
The main role of SHBG in males and females is to control the levels of testosterone, dihydrotestosterone and estradiol.
Elevated levels of SHBG can result in Hypothyroidism, Type II diabetes, Testicular cancer (males) & polycystic ovary syndrome (females).
Low levels of SHBG can result in Hyperthyroidism and problems with the pituitary gland.
