Progesterone

Progesterone

As Measured by Progesterone

What is Progesterone?

Progesterone is a hormone that plays an important role in the female reproductive system. Progesterone is produced in the ovaries and supports menstruation & maintaining the early stages of pregnancy.

What does Progesterone do?

The main function of progesterone is to prepare the endometrium (lining of your) for a fertilized egg to implant and grow. If a pregnancy doesn’t occur, the endometrium sheds during your menstrual period. If  occurs, progesterone increases to support the pregnancy.

The Effects of suboptimal/elevated levels?

Low progesterone may cause abnormal uterine bleeding in women who aren’t pregnant. Irregular or absent periods may indicate poorly functioning ovaries and low progesterone.

Symptoms of high progesterone include fatigue, bloating, moodiness, breast tenderness, and vaginal dryness. Important to note that these can all be very early signs of pregnancy.
